Top of the Village (Arriving Home on a late Summer Afternoon)

Painting
THIS PAINTING HAS BEEN DONATED TO THE KIRKBY LONSDALE FIRE DISASTER RELIEF FUND FOR AUCTION.
With travel opportunities limited during lockdown I started to take inspiration from a closer inspection of my immediate surroundings.
This painting depicts the barns on the road into the Yorkshire Dales village where I was brought up and where I returned just before lockdown.
With its long late afternoon shadows contrasting with the bright sunlight, this painting evokes the fading heat of a long summer day.
I have given the painting the subtitle "returning home on a late summer afternoon" as this view is so familiar to me and is strongly connected with the emotions linked to coming home after time away.
