I’m Matthew Eyles, an architect turned landscape artist, inspired by the rugged beauty of the Yorkshire Dales. My passion lies in capturing the character of landscapes, landmarks, buildings, and homes.
Using acrylic inks and watercolours, I bring to life the interplay between nature and human intervention—highlighting elements such as sculpted hedges, dry stone walls, weathered farm gates, and barns nestled in the countryside. Each painting is a carefully considered composition, reflecting the unique story of the landscape.
Working on the composition for a painting
Commissioning a painting is a collaboration between you and the artist to create a bespoke artwork tailored to your vision. Instead of purchasing a completed piece, you work with me to develop ideas that make the painting personal and meaningful. Whether it’s a cherished place, a memorable sunset, or the atmosphere of your home, I aim to make the process enjoyable and rewarding.
Even if commissioning a piece feels daunting, don’t worry! I’ll guide you through every step to ensure the result is a one-of-a-kind artwork that reflects the atmosphere and essence of your chosen subject in a way that’s truly special.
Step 1 – Share Your Ideas
Our journey begins with a free consultation where you can share your vision. This initial discussion helps me understand:

Step 5 – Composition & Approval
I’ll develop sketches, colour studies, and layouts to explore composition and mood. These drafts will be shared with you for feedback and approval before moving to the final piece.
Step 6 – Painting the Artwork
Once the design is approved, I’ll start painting and keep you updated with progress photos.
Step 7 – Completion & Final Payment
After your approval of the finished piece, the remaining balance will be due.
Step 8 – Delivery or Collection
You can collect the artwork or have it delivered to you. High-quality digital images can also be provided for you to share with loved ones.
Step 9 – Framing Options
Framing is optional and not included in the initial price. I can advise on presentation and framing styles to suit your artwork.
