Matthew Eyles Exhibiting at the Gargrave Art Exhibition 2026

I'm pleased to be exhibiting at the 2026 Gargrave Art Exhibition, one of North Yorkshire's largest and most popular annual art exhibitions.

This year will the the 56th exhibition and features a record 474 artworks by 150 artists, including 39 artists exhibiting at Gargrave for the first time, making it a wonderful opportunity to discover an incredible range of paintings, drawings, prints, photography, ceramics and other original artwork by talented local artists.

I'll be exhibiting two of my latest paintings:

Leeds Gothic - The Corner Shop

Acrylic ink and watercolour on 640gsm Arches textured cold press (NOT) 100% cotton watercolour paper.

Framed size: 90 × 79 cm.

It’s a moonlit night somewhere in Leeds. Brooding Victorian meets modern day. The corner shop is open late, light spilling out over the pavement and road in front. But... something here is a bit off-kilter. Where is everyone? Where are all the cars? Why is the shop signage looking a little dated? Is this some time in the past? What is the exact location and time? Maybe the lone cat could tell a tale or two, but who knows.

Where The Light Waits

At the edge of a Yorkshire village, where woods and dwelling meet, winter night blurs what the day defines. Boundaries loosen; the familiar shifts toward something less certain, something other. Within the trees, a light remains — steady, contained.

A welcome, perhaps, or simply a small defiance against the dark?

It's always a relaxed and enjoyable evening, offering the chance to view the exhibition before the general opening, meet many of the exhibiting artists and enjoy an inspiring collection of original artwork.
